Justice Alito: Self-Defense is Central to 2nd Amendment

With all the retoric and anti-2nd Amendment talk flying around Washington DC, it is important to remember important, recent legal decisions on the matter.  In 2010, in the Supreme Court decision on the case McDonald v Chicago, Justice Alito wrote the majority decision and stated “[the court] concluded, ‘citizens must be permitted to use handguns for the core lawful purpose of self-defense.'”  Drawing on the 1689 English Bill of Rights as well as political and legal precedent throughout American history, Alito firmly re-established the importance of the 2nd Amendment.

This was a significant victory for all 2nd Amendment and self-defense advocates.  The Supreme Court stated what we know to be true, that self-defense, through the use of firearms, is a basic right, firmly established in the US Constitution.
